Organic Memory

See, organize and delete what your AI tools remember, from the Memory area of MCP Self-Service.

Organic memory lets the AI tools you connect through your MCP Gateway (like Cursor or Claude Code) remember what they learn and find it again later. When a tool learns a fact about your work, records a summary of a conversation, or saves a document, it can search for it in a later session, even from a different tool. Everything is kept in your own compartments, and you decide what stays.

Your admin turns organic memory on for your organization. See Organic Memory for admins.

What your tools can do

When organic memory is on, your gateway includes six memory tools. Your AI tool calls them for you; you do not need to use them directly.

ToolWhat it does
searchFinds memories, conversations and documents that match what you are working on
getReads a stored item, or lists what is stored
remember and remember_batchStore one memory, or several at once
storeSaves a document, from text or from a file
recordSaves a summary of a conversation

In your tool they appear with the prefix organic_memory__, for example organic_memory__search.

Where you'll see it

Everything described here is in MCP Self-Service, in the Memory area. If you don't see a Memory area, your admin has not turned it on for your organization.

The Memory home shows how many compartments your memory spans, how many are yours and how many are shared with you, and a card for each compartment. A card shows the compartment's name and description and how many memories, documents and conversations it holds. It is marked Yours on a compartment you own, or Shared with you and Read only on one someone shared with you. Click a card to open the compartment.

Turn memory on or off for yourself

Serve memory to my gateway is a switch at the top of the Memory home. It controls whether your dynamic (personal) gateway includes the memory tools, and it does not change gateways your admin configured. It is on until you turn it off. Turning it off removes the memory tools from your dynamic gateway; what you already stored stays where it is.

Compartments

Your memory is organized into compartments. You start with one, your default compartment. Others appear in your list when someone shares a compartment with you.

An open compartment has five tabs:

TabWhat it shows
OverviewIts details, your most recent memories, how many memories, documents and conversations it holds, and who has access
MemoriesFacts and notes your tools remembered
DocumentsDocuments your tools saved. Click a title to read the document
ConversationsSummaries of conversations your tools recorded
SharingWho has access, and on a compartment you own, sharing and deleting it

On a compartment you own, Rename changes its name (up to 128 characters).

Search a compartment

On the Memories tab, type in Search memories in compartment and press Enter. The search covers that compartment only, and matching text is highlighted. Under Memory types you can narrow the list to semantic, episodic or working memories, with or without a search.

If the Memory area says Search is not set up for your organization yet, ask your admin to configure the memory embedding key.

Delete what is stored

Open the compartment and choose Memories, Documents or Conversations.

Click Edit, then tick the items you want to remove.

Click Delete and confirm.

Deleted items leave every view, search and tool at once, and are permanently removed 30 days later. Edit appears only on compartments you own.

Memory also tidies itself up: it folds near-duplicates together and retires notes that have faded or were only meant to last a short time. Those are hidden, not deleted. Only items you delete yourself are permanently removed.

Delete a compartment

Open the compartment, go to the Sharing tab and click Delete compartment, then confirm. The compartment is deleted for good right away, with all its memories, conversations and documents.

If the compartment is shared, the confirmation tells you how many people will lose access, for example This compartment is shared with 3 people. They will lose access to it. If the Memory area can't check who it is shared with, it says so and warns that anyone it is shared with will lose access.

The people it is shared with lose access to it. Nothing of theirs is deleted: shares are read-only, so they can't add anything to it. Your default compartment can't be deleted, so it has no Delete compartment button.

Sharing

You can share a compartment you own with other people in your organization. A share is read-only: the person can view what is in the compartment, but cannot change it, rename it, share it or delete it. There is no other level of access to choose. A compartment is never shared with anyone outside your organization, and a share belongs to the person, not to their email address.

Share a compartment

Open the compartment and click Share, or open its Sharing tab.

Under Add people, type at least two letters of their name or email in Name or email of someone in your organization.

Click Add next to the person. If you typed a full email address that isn't in the list, choose Share with email instead. Either way the compartment is shared right away, and the Memory area confirms Shared with email. They can view it.

You can share only with someone who has opened organic memory at least once. If the person you picked hasn't, the Memory area says they aren't using memory yet and marks them Not using memory yet; ask them to open organic memory first. For a typed email it can't share with, it shows Can't share with that email: check the address, and that the person is in your organization and has opened organic memory.

The compartment then appears in their compartment list.

See who has access and stop sharing

Under People with access, you are listed as Owner, and everyone it is shared with is listed by email and marked Can view, or the tab shows Not shared with anyone. To take someone's access away, click the X next to their email. The Memory area confirms No longer shared with email.

On a compartment shared with you, the Sharing tab shows the owner and the people with access, and only the owner can change who has access.

Leaving your organization

If you leave, your memory is not deleted automatically. To have it removed, ask your administrator.
