Quick Start Guide
Welcome to Airia!
We're excited to help you simplify and secure your use of AI. This guide will get you up and running with your first AI agent quickly and safely. Advanced features will come naturally as you explore the platform.
Getting Started
Login & User Setup
You should have received an invitation link via email. Simply click the link and create your password to get started.
Adding Team Members
Need to add colleagues? It's simple:
- Go to Settings at the bottom of the left menu
- Select People & Access, then People
- Click Invite User and enter their Name and Email
- Choose their Roles (and the Projects a project-scoped role applies to), then click Create User
Role Types:
- Platform Admin - Can build, edit, and delete agents with you
- End User - Uses the agents shared with them in the Airia Catalog
For the full list of roles and what each one includes, see User Roles and Permissions.
Good to know: You start with credits to test any model that supports Airia Key. Set up your Account Details to manage billing and preferences.
Building Your First AI Agent
What is an agent?
An agent is a workflow you build on a visual canvas. It starts with an Input step, runs one or more steps in the middle (a model with its prompt, and optionally data sources, tools, and memory), and ends with an Output step. You edit the agent as a draft, test the draft in the Playground, and then Publish it so people can use it through an interface such as the Airia Catalog.
Two things to know before you start:
- A project scopes what your agents can use. An agent can only use models and data sources that have been added to its project (or shared with every project).
- Your edits save automatically to your draft. Nothing changes for your users until you publish.
Projects organize all the components for your agents
- In the left menu, go to Build → Projects and select View All Projects
- Click Create Project
- Enter a Project Name and a Project Description, and add an icon (optional)
- Click Create
Models are the AI engines (like ChatGPT, Claude, etc.)
- Open your project and select the Models tab. If a model is already listed there (including one shared with every project), you can skip to Step 3
- Click New Model to open the Model Library
- Select a model, review its details and pricing, and click Add
- In the New Model form, check the Credentials and Scope, then click Add
Start with a smaller, lower-cost model. The Model Library lists the input and output price per 1M tokens for every model, so you can compare costs before you add one. You can switch the model in your agent at any time.
Give your agent knowledge by connecting your files and data
- Select the Data Sources tab and click Add Data Source
- Choose a connector. File Upload is the quickest way to start
- Name your data source and upload your files
- Wait for processing to finish
Your first agent doesn't need a data source. Add one when you want the agent to answer from your own documents. See Quick Start: Ingest and Search for a full walkthrough.
Connect everything together visually
- Select the Agents tab and click Add a New Agent
- The agent opens in the builder with three steps already connected: Input, an AI Model step using the most recently added model available to your project, and Output. If the project has no model yet, Input connects straight to Output, so add a model first (Step 2)
- Click the agent name in the top left to rename it (make it descriptive for easy identification)
- Select the model step to change the model or add the prompt that tells the agent what to do. See Prompts
- To ground answers in your files, add a Data Search step between Input and the model step, or attach the data source to the model step. See Add a Data Source
Your changes save automatically to your draft. The top bar shows Saving... and then Saved.
Try it before anyone else does
- Open the Playground panel in the builder
- Type a message the way a user would and send it
- Adjust the prompt or steps and test again. The Playground runs your current draft, so every change is testable immediately
To see what each step did on a run, go to Audit → Activity → Agent Executions in the left menu and select the execution.
Make your draft the version people use
- Click Publish in the top right of the builder
- The first time you publish a new agent that has no interfaces yet, the Publish agent panel opens. Under Publish to:, the API Endpoint is always included. Select Airia Catalog to also list the agent in your organization's catalog, then choose Public so anyone can find it there, or Private (the default) to start with only you and share it in Step 7
- Click Publish agent
Publishing turns your draft into the published version that every interface runs. Later edits go into a new draft and don't change what users see until you publish again. See Manage Agent Versions.
Control access in the Airia Catalog
- In Agents, click the ⋯ menu next to your agent and select Interfaces
- If the agent isn't in the catalog yet, click Add Interface and choose Airia Catalog
- Under Permissions, choose Public so anyone in your account can find and use the agent, or keep Private (the default) and use Who can access this agent? to select the users and groups who should see it
- Click Add Interface, or Update if you are editing an existing catalog interface
People with access sign in to Airia and find your agent in the Airia Catalog. For every catalog setting, see Airia Catalog Interface.
Congratulations! Your first AI agent is ready to use.
